DOOM (2016) (a.k.a DOOM 4) is fantastic. The nostalgic factor with the classic levels was very nice, even though finding them was very annoying in some levels. I admit I cheated by watching where they are since I didn’t want to spent hours watching every inch of the level. I prefer to shoot and kill monsters instead! While playing a crash made me loose all the upgrades, I could still see the unlocked levels and use all the guns but all the upgrades were gone. Thankfully I was at level 5 and I didn’t find all the secrets and I would replay them anyway but still, I lost many hours. When I searched about the issue I found out that this specific scenario happened to many players. There are already threads for this so I didn’t post it earlier but I decided to warn the Doom players also.
How to backup
The base path where the save games are is: %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base
Inside the savegame folder you can find a folder which name is numbers. Every time you stop playing, go to savegame folder and zip the entire folder (to also save some space).
How to restore a backup
The restore has one step more than the backup. The first is to extract the latest zip to your savegame folder. The second is to do the same but in the temporary folder. In the base path, there is a generated folder and then a temp folder. Inside temp folder you can see the same savegame folder as in the base path. Extract the zip also there or better delete existing folder and then unzip.
A savegame for finished game
The following file is the savegame for the completed DOOM. It has finished single player, all guns with full upgrades, all secrets found, all collectibles, all runes upgraded and all challenges completed. If you lost your progress, you can use this save file. First slot is the corrupted one so don’t use it. Also, the number is not mine, I found that by searching a number that is used in another thread. You have to rename the folder if it is not the same id. I have 25 save files while backing up my progress. If someone doesn’t want everything unlocked but prefers to continue at a point close his progress before the crash let me know through a commend and I will provide a different savegame.

It’s been a while since I created the save games and I don’t remember which one is on which level. If you like I can send you all the save games (around 20) and figure out which one is before Argent Tower.

Hi, did you rename my save games with the same names as your old saved games? The folder name is the ID so it should be your ID.
Thank you so much – I was just in hell literally in the game and while trying to work out how these save files keep corrupting !! This whole dev mode / cloud saves / crashing during load has been insane – literally one of the only negatives about this otherwise amazing game…
Just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU for making your 100% complete save file available for download – the fact there dont even seem to be level selection cheats in DEV mode is bizzare…

My internet went down during the Argent Tower level. I carried on playing as I wasn’t actually aware this had happened, however some sound effects had gone mute. I got to the top of the tower and played the cut scene where Olivia was all bloodied and got sucked up into the air, and as the sound was bugged I decided to exit the game and restart. I tried restoring old saves, and then done messed things up. Ended up with a save file back on the second level!
Any chance you could post me a save file at the checkpoint at the top of the tower? Also, I was playing on ultra-violence, if that makes any difference? I’d obviously like to exactly where I left off. I still have all the things I collected thus far.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

Ouch, I didn’t write where each save game is but I didn’t play in ulta-violence. Either restart the mission or a previous checkpoint. I played each level several times, especially when they got corrupted. I know it is annoying but this is Doom and it is fun playing it. You will miss it after you are done.

Be sure you copy to both save game and temp folders. Also, make sure you rename it to be your id, it might differ from the id I have in the files.
Yea, I did that just now, double checked to make sure I did both the save game and temp folders, it is still saying when I fire it up that it deleted corrupt data and started a new profile

Like many I am and was stuck at Level 9, so replayed ALL the missions getting 95% of everything, (a couple of days, at least). That’s why I am searching high and low for a fix.
(30 or so hours of gameplay lost!!

Same issue as above, it says something like “Files are corrupt” when loading.
I put them in the 2 file locations you mentioned (both in Windows and Linux, as i thought it may be a permissions error) … and same problem..
I was trying random saves to find one close to Lazarus labs (Mission 9) so tried save 21.
Anyway, thanks in advance. … and i can’t believe you have not been getting more requests ( as it seems to be a sadly common issue), but it’s awesome you have replied to everyone’s request so far, Michalis – again – you are a LIFE SAVER

Solved it myself – a COMMON Problem! and here is the fix. I am happy to help this post as it is so generous of Michalis!
f you get a ‘file is corrupted’ error, open the console by pressing the “~” key and type the following:
devMode_enable 1
Close the console, back out to the main menu then try loading the save game again.

Thanks for putting this up. I too had issues and can’t recover my game save files. I just finished level 5 Argent Energy Tower (Argent Tower) and just started the first hell level, level 6 Kadingir Sanctum (Into the Fire). Any idea which save file is close to that?

Were you able to still play online after using the console commands? I had seen this method elsewhere after some digging but it seemed that some people were locked out of online after doing this. These glitches are unfortunate as the game truly is awesome.
Personally I didn’t use the console commands since it enables developer mode. You can disable back with devMode_enable 0. They are right to not enable online for developer mode.

Hallo bro, can you help me now. I already unlocked almost achievement with 100 hours more timeplay. The only achievement that i haven’t unlocked is COLLECT ALL RUINS (it should be unlocked in my game but the bug make it weird). Probably you can give me save game around mission 8 with all run got it). So i just play 1 more level to unlock 1-2 more run in mission 9.
I just to tired to play again after getting Beauty is Pain achievement is pain in my ass with grinding level method. My appreciatate

It’s been quite long time since I finished playing this game and I don’t remember the level each save is. I would recommend to load a save game near the middle, check its level and progress and then choose earlier or later save game. After 2-3 loads you will find what you are looking for. Next time I will rename them with levels to be more helpful.

Sadly this does not work. I delete the old files and add these to the relevant folder and when I load Doom I still have to start from the beginning. No saved games recognized.
It was a fun game till it failed. Thankfully it only cost me $7. Not wasting any more time on it now. It amazes me that such a broken game is being sold. I would be very upset if I had paid big money for this game back in 2016 only for it to fail with no solution ever provided to the buyers. You would have been better off paying nothing for this game by pirating it as honesty seems to be for idiots only these days.
