Spacecraft Cassini took a photo during its journey and five moons of Saturn are in it. On the left side of the photo and 179 kilometers across is Janus. Next moon from the left, the smallest in the picture and about in the center is Pandora, 81 kilometers across. It appears to be in the ring but actually is between the A and F rings. After Pandora we see Enceladus, the bright one in the center and 504 kilometers across
Walking hurts anonymity
As we all know, we can be identified by nearly anything. There is face recognition, voice recognition, fingerprints, DNA, all sorts of biometrics and now they want to add footprints as well. Footprints are as good as fingerprints for identification but it is not only that. The way bare foot hits and leaves the ground while walking creates foot-pressure patterns and those patterns can be used to reveal your identity
Alloy produces hydrogen using sunlight
A semiconductor material can be altered and used to produce hydrogen from water using sunlight. The research was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the results are published in the Physical Review Journal. The antimony-gallium nitride alloy uses solar light energy to extract hydrogen and oxygen by slitting water molecules
Stop worrying about Arctic ice melt
Stop worrying about arctic ice melt. According to a new research by National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) scientists, the Arctic ice may stabilize or even grow over the next few decades. The research was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the results were published by the American Geophysical Union. The study showed some unexpected results if we take into consideration the fast Arctic ice melt over the last decade and the current climate conditions
A planet darker than coal
A planet 750 light years away from earth is darker than coal. This strange exoplanet reflects less than one percent of the light falling on it. This planet has the name “TrES-2b” has the size of Jupiter. TrES-2b is mostly gas and
Earth has a ring too
Earth has a ring too. It is not as cool as the ring of Saturn, it is not even visible, but it is there. A doughnut-shaped ring of antiprotons surrounds the earth. Earth’s magnetic field traps the antimatter particles. Scientists estimate that they will use antiprotons as a fuel to rockets and spacecrafts in the future
