If you have a blog or website then you are probably familiar with the term PageRank (PR). PageRank is an algorithm that analyzes the links of each website and generates a number which shows the importance of that website. It got its name from Google’s Larry Page who developed the algorithm when he was still at Stanford University. PageRank shows the website’s link popularity and its range is from 0 to 10. When you create a new website, it is a PR0 website because there are no links pointing to that website. If the number of the links that point to the website (also known as backlinks) grow, then the PR of the website will grow too.
Funny Google Stuff
We all know that Google’s employees enjoy Easter eggs and give us something funny occasionally. Since my posts about Google Gravity and do a barrel roll I received many emails asking for more funny Google stuff. This post is about all the funny things I found that has to do with Google. I will start with the search terms and then the projects and websites with Google fun. I believe that you will enjoy this post. If you know something not in this post feel free to send me an email or post a comment.
Play with Android on your computer
If you want to check out the Google’s OS Android, without a device that supports it, you can do it. This one is different from the Bluestacks app player. You don’t play just the apps but you see the operating system as a whole. If you are not familiar with Live CDs (such as Ubuntu Live CD) then you should know that it is a bootable CD that runs an operating system from the CD without requiring any installation. This is how you can also try Android. LiveAndroid is a LiveCD for x86 platforms (normal PC) that runs Android. You can download the image of the CD from the LiveAndroid’s website and burn it to a CD. As we said, you don’t need to install anything, it will not affect your files and all you need to do is insert the CD and restart your computer.
Flexible Screens from Samsung
Samsung Electronics said that its goal is to produce mobile phones with flexible screens in 2012. Flexible displays will be added later to tablets and other mobile devices. Samsung is willing to continue its Galaxy S II success which sold 10 million devices in a period of five months. What flexible screens means to consumers? Hopefully less cracked displays and better mobile designs. It might also means higher prices at the beginning but this is expected on any new device. All we can do for now is wait.
Google is executing commands
Google, as we said before, shows your IP in search results. It also converts currency and other metrics and shows definitions of words. Google from time to time puts something funny for its users, just like Google gravity. Now Google executes commands, you put a command in the search box and Google executes it. You don’t believe me? Fine! You can check it right now. Go to Google’s homepage, type (without the quotes) “do a barrel roll” and see what happens. Do you believe me now?
Anonymous VS Mexican drug cartel

In the past few month we have seen Anonymous go against law enforcement, governments, companies and organizations but we never saw them messing with drug cartels. Well, now they do and to do such thing you need some very big balls. A member of Anonymous, who was taking part to a street protest, was kidnapped by Los Zetas. Los Zetas is a Mexican drug cartel and Mexican Anonymous is now demanding that they release him or else they will reveal identities, names and addresses of syndicate’s associates. In those associates are included politicians and corrupt police. Anonymous is not only threatens to reveal associates but also syndicate’s businesses. Anonymous is not just words, they already started revealing information about the cartel. They have also defaced the website of a politician that is suspected to have connections with Los Zetas. The website is still defaced now that I am writing this post with the message “es Zeta” which means “is Zeta”.
Facebook – Adding “friends” is dangerous
Facebook has announced that hackers login to Facebook hacked accounts 600.000 times (not all of them successfully) in 24 hours. So far we had to worry only for our password, to be different from our other accounts (email, other websites), to be strong and don’t be hacked (Trojans, Keyloggers). Facebook added a new feature to regain your account if it is hijacked and it is called “Trusted Friends”. You can select three to five friends that will get a code and if you enter those codes you will get access to your account. You might think that this is a good thing and that you will get access to your hijacked account but this is the one side of the coin. You might also think, if this feature was created to help you then how is it possible to have another side?
Sloth Crossing the Street
Sloth is trying to cross the street, the usual way, until something extraordinary happens. It is somehow floating above the Earth surface and crossing really fast the street. This video has also soundtrack, special effects and more than a million views. Enjoy!
Hackers love hacking Facebook accounts
According to Facebook, 600.000 logins every 24 hours are hackers that gain access to victims’ accounts. Once a hacker gains access to an account he can see all private information stored on victim’s account including photos and emails. He can add friends, send private messages and write on the wall. Usually, hackers post links on the victim’s wall to product and services that will give them profit if someone clicks and/or buy them. If the 600.000 hacks are unique every day (which are not most probably) in about 4 years everyone’s account will be hacked.
Google.Org – Enhanced Geothermal Systems
Everyone with internet connection knows Google and use at least one of its services. How many of you know google.org, an organization which spends millions of dollars in research and funding. They characterize it as a technology-driven philanthropy. One of the projects of google.org is the Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and a new study about EGS was conducted by SMU Geothermal Laboratory. EGS produces electricity by exploiting the heat and energy from hot rock beneath the surface of the earth. From the data they gathered, they estimate that with EGS they can generate about 3.000.000 megawatts for the continental U.S.
